What's All The Rush?! (Let's Get Real)

“Nothing will ruin your twenties more than thinking you should have your life together already.”

As a millennial on the career run, I can't help but wonder.... Why is there so much pressure on us? Why are we all striving for that Forbes under 30 list or giving up after a certain age?

When it comes to your career goals. Here’s what I think...

Do it because it feels good. Do it when it feels right. Why the rush and why the doubt?

We’re all striving so fast for something we’re made to think we want. We’re forgetting the reason we started and we’re missing out on what the whole process of career building is really about.

It takes 20-30 years for a tree to grow, but when we look at one we never tell it to speed up or to stop. Your success is not a result of what age you are or how fast you attain it. If you’re 25 and beating yourself up because you feel like you haven’t made it, STOP. Or you’re 55 and not starting something new because you’re afraid your time is over, STOP.

If it takes you 3 years or 20 years to build the career or life you want that’s your decision and how fast you get there is absolutely meaningless.

It’s the fact that you got THERE that matters. Because no one questions how long it took a tree to get to where it is, we all just stand there and marvel because it‘s there.

Give them something to marvel at, don’t let them determine when you do it.
